Understanding vaginal laxity

Vaginal tightening — also called vaginoplasty — helps women regain sexual sensation and satisfaction that childbirth or ageing can loosen over time. Vaginal delivery and natural ageing can both relax the vaginal muscles, and a loosened or enlarged vagina can reduce sensation during intercourse, lower sexual satisfaction, and even affect a relationship.

Sexual health is a real part of a woman's physical and emotional wellbeing, and concerns around it deserve to be listened to and addressed with the same care as any other health issue. Just like the rest of the body, the vagina changes with age — leading to dryness, urinary incontinence, pain during intercourse, and vaginal laxity — and vaginal tightening is designed to address these together.

What is vaginal tightening?

Vaginal tightening restores and tightens a loosened vagina to closer to its original shape, by removing excess mucosal skin and bringing separated muscles back together. It's also known as vaginoplasty, vaginal reconstruction, or vaginal plastic surgery.

Frequently asked questions

The procedure typically takes about 20–40 minutes.

Most women recover within 1–2 weeks and can return to their daily activities after that.

Success depends on the patient's age, how much tightening is needed, and the surgeon's experience.

In most cases, yes — though revision surgery is sometimes needed after 7–12 years.

If results fall short, a doctor may recommend revision surgery or a further vaginal rejuvenation procedure.

The main long-term result is a tighter vaginal canal, which many women find improves their sex life. The procedure is also used to correct some congenital conditions of the vagina. Future childbirth and ageing can affect the result.

If the result isn't satisfactory, your doctor may recommend a revision procedure or non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation.
